from its slumber by Raymond A. Foss

Newborn, rising from the earth
the warming, changing,
the rich wet soil
the crocus rising from its slumber
bursting forth into the light
unfurling, opening so soon
warmed by the spring rays
a new thing revealed
out of the melting snow, new earth,
turned by the growing,
up from its slumber.
